5 couples get engaged at the finish line at St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Marathon

Sarah Stender, sweaty and out of breath, had a storybook ending to her Saturday St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Half Marathon.

Her running partner Matt Weber, 29, proposed to her at the finish line in front of a crowd of hundreds.

“This is crazy,” she said over and over.

Weber had planned the Iowa couples’ engagement well in advance of the race, with Stenders’ family flying in.

Stender is an avid runner and Weber ended up running three races with her during the two years they’ve been dating.

“I’ve always run them by myself,” Stender said.
