Competitor Group joins MapMyFitness Series B funding as part of larger business partnership

San Diego, Calif. – June 9, 2012 – Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company, has announced the formation of a strategic alliance with MapMyFITNESS, a health and fitness technology company powering the Internet’s largest and fastest growing community of fitness enthusiasts.

“This partnership combines the leader in fitness technology with the leader in active lifestyle media and events,” said Alex Baxter, Chief Digital Officer at CGI. “By combining our world-class content assets with MapMyFITNESS’ industry leading technology and mobile platforms, we have joined two of the most powerful reach vehicles in the active lifestyle space.  Competitor Group will leverage this opportunity to provide new products and offerings for partners, reaching a significant number of affluent consumers in the quickly growing participatory endurance sports space.”

CGI’s alignment with MapMyFITNESS spans across product, marketing and advertising sales, as the two organizations look to innovate and build tools and products that inspire, facilitate and drive the lives of runners, cyclists, triathletes and anyone seeking an active lifestyle.  In the coming weeks and months, tighter integration and new product offerings, both on mobile and web platforms, will begin to take shape.

“At CGI, we look at digital space holistically and not simply from an advertising monetization perspective. Our investment in MapMyFITNESS follows our acquisition of event registration platform, Raceit, and continues the diversification of our digital portfolio of offerings,” added Baxter.

“Our 9.5 million registered members are digitally engaged in their health and fitness endeavors,” said Richard Jalichandra, chief executive office of MapMyFITNESS.“Working with CGI creates the potential to extend our audience relationship beyond the screen for a fuller, deeper engagement.”

MapMyFITNESS is an online and mobile platform that helps over nine million active users plan workout activities, measure their fitness and track their progress both in real-time and over time. The company leverages a fast-growing business model that has doubled revenue each of the past four years and is projected to nearly triple in 2012.

CGI recently announced the launch of a global women’s endurance sports platform with the acquisition of Women’s Running Magazine, Lady Speed Stick® Women’s Half Marathon Series and WomensRunning.com to anchor the overall strategy. CGI also owns the digital registration platform Raceit.com, a rapidly expanding online solutions provider and the number two event registration platform in the endurance sports industry.
